1. The Immediate Reality on the Ground
When floodwaters breach embankments, the crisis unfolds in three distinct phases:
Survival & Displacement: Entire communities are forced into makeshift relief camps or temporary shelters on high ground.
Immediate access to dry food, safe drinking water, and tarpaulins becomes a matter of life and death. Health Threats: Stagnant water quickly gives rise to waterborne diseases like cholera and vector-borne illnesses like dengue.
Lack of basic hygiene products severely impacts women and young girls. Loss of Livelihood: Silt deposits destroy standing crops, and livestock—often a family’s primary source of income—is swept away or lost to post-flood diseases.
